From Engineering to Big 4 Consulting - Meet Rosie Chabva


Rosie is a chemical engineer turned consultant with experience across multiple industries including oil & gas, natural resources, and chemicals. Recognised on the Pan-African Female Leaders in Energy 2021 List, Rosie is committed to sustainable development, a just transition to a low-carbon economy and equity of opportunity. In this interview, she discusses how she’s leveraging her engineering experiences in her consulting career, the opportunities a career in consulting can offer and tips & insights on how to make a successful transition from industry to consulting.


Rosie discusses her time spent navigating the snakes and ladders involved in building her career as an environmental engineer.


She started her STEM studies in pre-med aiming to be a doctor, but she was faced with the realities of life as a doctor. Following a chance encounter with a chemical engineering PhD student, she made the switch to chemical engineering and never looked back. After many years in the Mining and Oil & Gas industries, she pivoted into consulting and with this change, came some challenges as well as insights. She highlights the importance of leveraging our unique experiences as engineers within our new environments and being comfortable asking questions – no matter how silly we think they are.


Lastly, Rosie highlights, challenges faced within consultancy and the key engineering skills that served her well as a consultant.
